Technically, the term artificial intelligence describes any machine that can analyze data from its environment and work around unfavorable conditions or problems to complete the task assigned to it. More recently the term is aptly used to describe a computer or machine that can learn and represents to some degree the human brain. The first definition of AI is now classified as a weak AI and the latter as a strong AI; both have their application. Medical Treatment and Assistance
AI is commonly used in healthcare to analyze past patient’s data to help doctors to diagnose faster in the future. It is also helping doctors find a cure for cancer. For instance, the well-known Microsoft’s Hanover project, which is a work in progress, is meant to predict combinations of drugs that will work for particular cancer patients by analyzing previous patient’s records and other pertinent research papers.
Apart from just analyzing data, AI has even made its way into surgical robots. In a few more years, AI robots will be able to perform surgery with more precision and accuracy than any surgeon.
Defense and Security
Many countries have started to use surveillance systems in crowded cities that are linked to AI computers. With facial recognition becoming more common in surveillance cameras, coupled with the immense processing power of current AI systems, it would be easier to detect disasters and security threats. Additionally, militaries around the world have started using autonomous drones that are capable of conducting recon missions with ease.
Manufacturing Industry
AI robots are replacing jobs in manufacturing that are repetitive and prone to human error. They are also being used to perform tasks that are considered dangerous.
