Bring the Outdoors In: Hosting an Indoor Camping Get-Together

Who says you need to go outside to enjoy the fun of camping? An indoor camping party is a great way to combine the fun of camping with the comfort of being in your own home. As someone who writes for a 6th grade reading level, I have some tips to help you entertain your guests without spending a fortune.

First, make a plan for your indoor camping party. Will you provide food or have a potluck? Will there be games or just conversations around a faux campfire? The possibilities are endless. Once you have a plan, it’s time to create your campsite.

Setting up camp is all about transforming your living space into a cozy and inviting environment. Utilize comfortable seating options, bring out the blankets and pillows, and consider investing in a tent or teepee for added fun. String up some twinkly lights for a starry effect and hang a sign welcoming your guests to “Camp [Your Last Name].” It’s the little touches that make all the difference and create an authentic camping atmosphere.

Next, plan your activities. These can be as simple as board games or a deck of cards, or consider setting up an indoor obstacle course or scavenger hunt. Science experiments such as creating a lava lamp or making slime will keep kids occupied while engaged. Another fun activity is to have a “ghost story contest” where each person tries to tell the best campfire tale, or having your guests decorate their own s’mores dessert.

Food is an essential part of camping, and an indoor camping party is no exception. Finger foods such as trail mix, popcorn, and chips are easy options. If you’re feeling adventurous, try making your own “campfire” treats by roasting marshmallows on skewers over the stove and making s’mores. For a more substantial meal, you can set up a DIY grilled cheese bar with different cheese and topping options, allowing guests to customize their own sandwiches.

Finally, don’t forget the fun of sleeping in a tent. Set up some sleeping bags and make sure your guests have pillows and extra blankets for added warmth. If possible, set up your tent in a large open space or even in your backyard if weather permits. A teepee can be set up as a quiet, cozy place to nap or rest.

In terms of decorations, you can keep it simple by adding fake flowers, rocks or logs throughout the room to add an outdoor feel. Make it extra special by adding a faux campfire with silk flames to the center of your party, or even a green screen with outdoor visuals because having natural outdoor beauty is always serene.

Remember, an indoor camping party doesn’t have to be extravagant to be fun. Spend time with your guests and enjoy the cozy atmosphere you’ve created together. With a little planning and creativity, you can bring the great outdoors right into your own home and enjoy the ultimate camping experience without leaving your house.
