When you read anything relating to HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) hormone, you will come across the name Dr. Simeons a number of times. This is because the British endocrinologist has done a lot of research on the effects of HCG on the human body. In 1954, Dr. Simeons published the book – Pounds and Inches – aimed at combating obesity. The doctor is credited with among other things, the HCG diet plan which proposes a low-calorie diet and an injection of low dose HCG (125 IU). According to this diet plan, only 500 calories should be consumed per day consisting mainly of low-carbohydrates, high-protein diet.
The diet can lead to loss of adipose tissue without affecting the lean tissue. The overall result is quick weight loss. Since many people do not like needles, manufacturers of HCG now make HCG diet-drops which are taken orally. While the weight loss remedy is yet to get the backing of the FDA, it is known to be effective and does not have serious side effects.
