Golf Club Angles: Using High Lofts

Every golfer can take a maximum of 14 clubs in their bag while playing a game. That might seem excessive for people who aren’t familiar with the game but the number is just about right for a lot of players. Some might even wish they could bring more given the wide variety of situations on the course and the necessity of using the right tool for each. The more competitive the game, the more important it gets to have the perfect club for every situation. Otherwise, other competitors can leave you in the dust. Every piece has different golf club angles with the higher lofts being suitable for the following scenarios:

Getting on the Green

The green usually sits on an elevated part of the terrain. Players who are about to approach it need to consider the change in elevation no matter how slight. It is not practical to let a ball roll up the grass and over to the green as this is difficult to control. It is more common to take the ball up in the air quickly and have it land softly on the green. A highly lofted wedge is ideal for this since the ball can have a short trajectory and minimal rolling. Less effort is required so accuracy can be better.

Getting Out of the Sand

Even the best players can find their balls on the sand or the water. Maybe a freak wind blows at just the right time to take their ball where it should be. You just have to play it where it lands. This is another case where the ball can be much lower than where it should be. Again, the solution is to use a wedge to get out as fast as possible. There is even a club called a sand wedge for this exact scenario. However, you can use the other wedges depending on your assessment.

Avoiding Hazards

You may also be in a situation where there are different hazards standing between you and your target. Wedges can also be handy in avoiding them while advancing into an excellent position to finish the hole. Others use their wedge when they get into roughs. These are areas with higher grass outside of the fairways. These can make ball movement difficult, especially those that have unkept vegetation. Players can use wedges just to get back to areas with ideal conditions.

Golf club angles bring a few wedges in their golf bags so that they can help themselves in these difficult situations.
