Mining tenement online is an essential tool to support the State’s mineral resources administration and plays a key role in ensuring sound management.
The Mining tenements Online (MTO) is a dedicated site for the exploration industry to enable online applications for Mineral Exploration Licenses, Associated Minerals Authority, Non-Aboriginal Agreement Requests, and Nomination of Prospecting Authorities.
You can register for a Mining Tenements Online account to manage your tenement information, submit applications and track the progress of your application in real-time. You must have a current email address that you regularly check (at least once per week) during the submission process, as all communication with MTO is via email. Please note that no hard copy will be sent. All applications are submitted electronically via MTO tenement online.
The application process takes approximately 12 weeks to complete, with information being actioned by the Department on a priority basis. A submission is considered complete once all documents have been received and checked against the requirements of the Terms of Reference before being formally accepted by MTO.
Once your application has been accepted, you will be assigned a Registration of Interest (ROI) number, and you will be able to track the progress of your submission online. You will receive further communication via email as the next steps become available, including:
when and how to notify other parties, e.g., Indigenous Land Corporation;
when and how to submit the required documentation; and/or,
if you are successful or unsuccessful, what is required of you before submitting another application for a tenement area.
If your application is not successful, any information supplied as part of your application may be used to determine the suitability of other applicants for access to this area.

Once your application is complete and ready to be submitted, you will need to upload the following documents:
- Checklist for Submission of Applications you must check each requirement before submission; it is not possible to add information once an incomplete submission has been made); and/or,
- Application For Mineral Exploration License And Associated Authority
With the documents uploaded, a summary of your submission must be completed in MTO online. Once you have confirmed that all information is correct, you can submit your application for processing through MTO tenement online.
