The Sun Gate (Inti Punku)

The Sun Gate is one of the most important features of Machu Picchu. The stairs leading to this site are believed to have been used as a part of control for those wishing to enter or exit the city. The sunrise from the Sun Gate is simply spectacular, and that is why you must visit this place.

Climb Huayna Picchu

You might have come across of the bird eye view pictures of Machu Picchu. If so, then if you want to view the city from such an angle, you need to climb Huayna Picchu.

Climbing this mountain that is located directly behind the city is fairly easy and does not require technical ability. However, you have to pay some cash to obtain a permit to climb this mountain.

The Inca Bridge

The Incas bridge was built for use by the Incan army. You can access this cliff-carved bridge from the west route of the city.

However, don’t expect to see an actual bridge. Instead, you will see a stone path carved out of the rock of the cliff. There is a 20 foot drop where the bridge should be which was designed that way to deter unwanted guests. Several tree trunks can be used to bridge the gap.

Watchman’s Hut

After making your way into Machu Picchu, you will see the Watchman’s Hut. Do not miss this as it is the perfect place to get a good view over the whole city.

The Funerary Stone

There is a strangely carved rock just outside the Watchman’s Hut known as the Funerary Stone. No one has a clue of what this stone could have been used for. However, some people suggest that the Funerary Stone could have been used as an alter for offering sacrifices to the gods.
