Save Money With A Bathtub Repair Kit

Does your bathtub have a crack or a hole? This is not an unusual sight given the significant weight that they carry day after day. Weak spots may finally give in and you will find yourself dealing with leaks. Hold up because it is not the end of the line for your tub. You can still save it and enjoy many years with the right kind of bathtub repair kit. That’s right: you don’t have to upgrade to a new one or pay someone else to fix it for you. The job is simple enough for you to complete by following the instructions on the label.

Bathtub Material

Make sure that you are getting the right type of repair kit for the tub that you have. There are different ones depending on the material. The most common of these are the fiberglass repair kit. These work great when used the correct way but they will do nothing if applied on an incompatible surface. If you are not sure about the makeup of your tub, then just give it a knock. You should hear whether it has a metallic sound or a soft hollow sound. The latter is fiberglass.

Damage Level

Inspect the damage closely to determine the extent. Some of the cracks are quite small as to be nearly imperceptible. There is virtually no separation so it is easy to fix. Others may have developed holes that make the application of the polyester resin tricky. Putting a fiberglass mesh on top of this can be a big help. This will prevent the resin from falling through the hole and make it harder for the spot to get another hole in the future. The mesh should be part of the kit.

Kit Color

Consider the color of your tub. Most of these will be bright white while others could be a dirty white or an off-white. There are tubs of different hues from pinks to blues. You need to find a kit that comes with the right colorant so that the affected area will not look too obvious.

Complete Tools

Check if the bathtub repair kit comes with the other tools which you are likely to use including sandpaper of different coarseness, a thickener, a hardener, a mixing container, protective gloves, and a stirring tool. Of course, this should have the polyester resin, the fiberglass mesh, and the colorants. Get these ready and you will be good to go.
