Super Glue for Veins is a new effective treatment that eliminates the need for laser. It is an innovative option designed to eradicate the condition permanently. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the use of a special glue capable of sealing the blood vessels affected by the disease.
The treatment consists of non-thermal ablation and is designed for the treatment of varicose veins linked to valvular insufficiency of the saphenous veins located in the legs. This is a pioneering system that treats varicose veins permanently sealing them with an adhesive.
Varicose veins are blood vessels that have undergone abnormal dilation and are characterized by bluish threads and often occur in the legs. Its appearance is usually linked to a genetic predisposition, although pregnancy, obesity and standing for many hours a day represent specific risk factors for this disorder.
The super glue system is intended for the treatment of varicose veins and is an effective option using a special adhesive that blocks the saphenous vein atraumatically. The solution prevents the blood vessel affected by the disorder infecting other veins through the venous circulation. This special adhesive is composed of a substance known as cyanoacrylate or Superglue and has already been widely used as a biological glue in surgery.
In the treatment procedure approved by the FDA, a catheter is inserted into the vein affected by the pathology through which the glue is injected. Once injected, it becomes solid. The correct placement within the blood vessel is then controlled through ultrasound technology. In this way, laser treatment for varicose veins is no longer used or at least represents a new alternative for patients.
The treatment is ground breaking and it is performed on an outpatient basis, without anesthesia. As a result, the procedure is almost painless and does not lead to the development of scars. Once completed, it allows the patient to return to normal activities at home or at work.
The authorization granted by the FDA is based on three clinical studies. One of these studies, conducted in the USA, compared the condition of 108 patients treated with the superglue system and 114 patients treated with radio waves (radiofrequency ablation). According to the FDA, the results of the study have shown that the system is a safe and effective treatment for varicose veins. This new treatment (Super Glue for Veins) is available to patients looking for a reliable solution for varicose veins.
