The Basics Of Frameless Glass Pool Fencing

Many local authorities require pool owners to erect some kind of barricade around the swimming pool for good reason. Surveys have shown that more than half of drowning accidents could have been prevented if some kind of demarcation or barrier had been present around the pool.

Wood, steel, iron and aluminum have traditionally been used for fencing the swimming pool area. Frameless glass pool fencing has, however, emerged as the coolest pool fencing materials due to its superior aesthetics. Here are some basic facts about these elegant fences:

Why frameless glass fencing?

These fences lack visible joints and ugly metal frames around them making them highly attractive. The sides of the fence have no metal sidings and only the bottom has stainless steel hinges attached to the ground, giving the pleasant illusion that they are suspended in the air. The glass used is of premium quality, smooth and polished though frosted glass can also be used.

Installation

No special kind of flooring is required—concrete or wooden floors work equally well, thanks to the super-strong steel hinges and frames. When it comes to the actual installation, the fence can be secured using one of these three methods:

• Spigot fixed: high quality stainless steel spigots are bolted to the floor

• Button fixed: The panels extend beneath the surface of the ground and are secured using bolts placed at strategic locations

• Slot fixed: slots are made in the ground and panes fixed into it giving the appearance as if the glass is emerging from the ground

Maintenance

Although the glass panes appear delicate, they are actually very strong and won’t break or crack under normal usage. The glass, however, does get dirty and needs periodic cleaning to keep it looking attractive.

The best way to clean a glass fence is by using dishwashing liquid with water. Use a sponge to rub down the glass. Avoid using any rough material that is likely to leave scratch marks all over the polished surface. How often the fence needs to be cleaned varies according to usage but usually once a month or every few months is enough.

Custom-designed glass pool fencing are ideal for larger pools. Some local authorities require details like the pool layout and height of glass so make sure to consider them during installation. Most importantly, it is critical to note that the design and quality of your frameless glass pool fencing will depend on the installation company that you hire. As such, whether you are planning to install frameless or normal glass pool fencing, strive to do due diligence on the installation company’s reputation.
