One of the more popular scuba diving jobs in Malaysia is that of a PADI diver. If you plan on going for a teaching job as a PADI dive instructor in Malaysia, or even anywhere else for that matter, it would be wise to have at least some scuba diving experience under your belt. Just because you have done this sort of diving work in the past doesn’t mean you are qualified to teach people who wish to learn. As with any occupation, there are certain requirements that you must meet before you are considered for any kind of teaching posts.
The first thing you will need to be considered is experience. As a student, you will have learned everything there is about scuba diving. That means that you will need to have at least some experience to teach others. Most dive schools will ask for at least five dives before they consider you for a teaching post.
The next thing they will want to see is that you are part of the team and respect your students. You need to respect the instructors and other students to help them with their breathing and snorkeling techniques. Your students also need to trust you as the teacher, as they are going to depend on you for all that they do in the class.
So you need to have that relationship built before you start trying to get into the business. A lot of people are not sure about how to become a PADI dive instructor. A typical day for a dive school instructor consists of a couple of hours teaching a class consisting of around ten or twenty students. You then spend a few hours observing the students using a video camera to film their scuba dives. Afterward, you will return to the main pool area and begin the process of instructing students one by one. It is not a long process, but it can be extremely hectic.
Once you start diving, you will soon realize that there are many opportunities for advancement within the industry. Most instructors have the option of going up the ranks to higher-level positions. For example, if you become good enough and receive an award from your local diving organization, then you may even be able to land a job as a diving supervisor.
Another advancement comes through the career placement services that are offered by most dive schools. They will arrange for you to visit other locations in the world where diving is more abundant. In these trips, you will be exposed to new schools and unique underwater scenery. It is also possible that the students you meet will inspire you to become a better instructor. As you travel, you can also make connections in the diving world that could lead to a future position with an international company. Of course, this is contingent upon your ability to demonstrate proficiency as a dive instructor.
