Whether you have a new business, or you have an established business, you need a website. But where to start when it comes to small business website design it can be overwhelming. You can do it yourself, you can hire it out or you can do a combination of both.
Do It Yourself
One of the first things you need to do when it comes to small business website design is to get a domain name. Ideally, you want it to be the same as your business name but with so many websites out there, that may not be possible. A .com is always desirable in the United States but you may consider other extensions for your website.
From there, you will need to start building your website and there are a lot of places out there that will help you. You likely don’t want to have to learn coding so it is best to start somewhere that has templates and other elements you can use. There are a lot of different sites with a variety of prices but don’t make your selection based on price tag only. Do a bit of research and check into how much downtime they have each month.
See if you can upgrade your package as your website becomes more popular and busier. The last thing you want is for the site to crash due to too many visitors.
Both of these can be done at the same time. Registering your domain name doesn’t take long but it can take a while to find an appropriate one.
Hire Someone
Sometimes it can be a lot easier to hire someone when it comes to small business website design. As they do this for a living, it will not take them a lot of time to do something, depending on how complicated it is. It is a good idea to have some examples of what you like to show the designer. The more bells and whistles you want on your website, the more it is going to cost. Ask for references and examples of websites they have built and check them out.
Combination of Both
If budget is a concern, you can do a bit of a hybrid when it comes to small business website design. You can hire someone to build the website but they can use pre-designed templates which will make the process go a lot faster. There are many things that need to be done to make a website work correctly and it may be a lot less frustrating to go this route.
