When a baby does not sleep well it makes everyone in the house distressed. Most babies especially in their early stages don’t sleep well throughout the night and some of the reason that leads to a baby not sleep well include;
They are sleeping for long hours during the day.
When a baby takes many naps during the day, it might contribute the waking up at night thus not being able to sleep for long hours.
They are in a milestone developmental stage
When a baby is going through a developmental milestone, this might disrupt their sleep pattern and a parent or guardian should deal with the stage properly to ensure that it does not permanently interfere with the baby’s sleep.
Teething problem
Teething pain may keep the baby up at night. Some of the signs of teething are such as; they are fussy while being fed, irritability, drooling, and also biting. Most babies experience a sleeping problem that is mainly related to teething mostly in their first year, especially between three and six months.
Change of sleeping position
Sleeping on the back is always recommended by experts mostly for babies between zero to three months, but they might resist this position because they feel secure and comfortable sleeping on their tummies. Change of sleeping position might interfere with the baby’s sleep pattern and make them wake up more often at night.
Not falling asleep self-reliantly.
Babies need to be taught the skill of falling asleep independently both during the day and at night. If a baby is six months old and needs to be rocked to sleep, then sleep training should be well-thought-out.
Late-night feedings.
Babies from six months don’t really need night feedings, but if the baby still cries at night to be fed or rocked to sleep, then it’s appropriate to seek pediatricians help before doing away with the feeding at night.
Illnesses
Illnesses such as fever, congestion, sore throat may make it hard for a baby to sleep well at night. Once the baby gets back to their normal self, a sleep routine can be introduced whereby they will be able to adapt to it with time.
When a baby is hungry, they might keep waking up at night especially newborns because they have small tummies and they need to be fed more often. Sleeping problems don’t last for a long time but if they do, sleep training can be introduced or one can also seek help from a pediatrician.
