What Does A Computer Security Analyst Do

A computer security analyst typically works at a company or organization. Their main role is to protect their clients from cyber threats via various means such as protecting computers, programs, data, networks and so forth. To be more specific, below are a handful of responsibilities that an analyst typically has:

Disaster Recovery

An analyst can help with disaster recovery if a security breach occurs. When a breach occurs, data can go missing and it can be difficult to get back if you’re not an expert. An analyst can determine how bad the breach was and whether or not all of the data can be recovered. More importantly, they can create a disaster recovery plan, that way a business is already prepared to handle a breach before one actually happens.

Monitoring

Security analysts can monitor a network of computers for various threats. This includes attacks from hackers or other bad actors. They can monitor for unusual activities, intrusions and illegal activities. If any of those were occurring on a network, then a business could lost money and the trust of their workers and clients. It’s much better to monitor a network and take action as soon as potential issues arises, than it is to wait until something actually happens.

Security Products

Security products are always being released. Some work great and others are not that effective. Unless you’re an expert, you’ll have difficulties determining what security products are worth buying. An analyst can test out various security products, including new ones that have been released. They can then perform an evaluation of each one before determining which products should be implemented. In turn, your business will have the best possible security solutions.

Design Or Upgrade Systems

They can also design security systems that are suitable for a business and their specific goals. If a company already has an existing system, then an analyst can upgrade it. Every now and then it’s a good idea to install a new computer security or network system or upgrade an existing one. This will ensure that computers are receiving the utmost protection.

Those are only a handful of key responsibilities a computer security analyst will have. The extent of their duties will depend on the company they are working for. Sometimes they only have a few duties and other times they deal with many tasks at any given time. However, it’s safe to say that a security analyst plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of an organization’s computers and/or network.
