A big thin leather wallet used to be a must for both men and women. Most people put these at the back of their pants. Others have to place them in a bag because of their large size. They used to contain so much stuff and some still haven’t changed their habits. However, more are replacing their bulky wallets with a thin leather wallet. These are simply a sign of the times. The evolution to minimalism is made possible by a few key shifts in the way we go about life.
Photos Have Gone Digital
For example, one of the reasons why wallets were so thick wasn’t the presence of thick wads of cash. People are often sentimental so they carried around the photographs of their loved ones. These were the days when you had the film developed and printed so you had a tangible copy of your pictures. Now that everything is digital, you can have all of your snaps in your phone. The most important one may even be your current wallpaper.
Calling Cards are Less Common
Businessmen used to exchange calling cards all the time. When going to events for networking, they would give out these cards to the people they meet so that these individuals could remember them. These had all of their contact information to make them easy to reach. Some are still doing this whenever they get the opportunity. However, the chances to give away your cards are fewer now that work is mostly happening at home and even conferences are going online to reduce travel. Wallets don’t have to carry these anymore.
Credit Cards are Widely Accepted
Even cash can mostly be left at home. Nearly all establishments accept credit cards. They might even prefer cards as they don’t have to deal with change and they can monitor all transactions better. However, there could be glitches in the system so you could slip carry a few paper bills if you want peace of mind. Take two or more payment cards as well.
App Payments are Rising
Most people bring their phones wherever they go. With the rise of mobile app payment solutions, they could also pay with their phones so they don’t even have to bust out their card. Or, at least, they have an alternative if the system rejects their cards. The cash in their thin card wallet is also on standby. Mostly, however, this will only contain IDs for emergencies.
