Mexico is a country of vast diversity, intriguing history, vibrant culture, spectacular sandy beaches and world-class resorts. All over the country, particularly the coastal areas, tourists arrive throughout the year to relax in the sun and enjoy food, drink, sun and relaxation. A very popular resort area in the state of Quintana Roo is the Riviera Maya on the Yucatan Peninsula which is about an hour away from the major city of Cancun. The region is home to a number of communities including Tulum, Puerto Morelos, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and the ever-popular town of Playa Del Carmen Hotels.
Playa del Carmen is a fairly small coastal community lining a beautiful beach. The area is known for its top Playa del Carmen Hotels and resorts, it’s restaurants, shops and vibrant nightlife. When it comes to accommodations in the town, the possibilities are endless. There is something for everyone no matter their budget, taste or party size.
On one end of the scale, you have your lavish five-star resorts that house thousands of people, are gated and everything needed is available on-site, including a stretch of beach that may or may not be private. These resorts are mainly for people who have no interest in exploring the area and simply wish to relax on the beach in a safe haven away from the outside world. Some of the top resorts tend to be very expensive but you can get good deals with all-inclusive bookings at some of the resorts.
In the middle, we have the boutique Playa del Carmen Hotels and smaller Inns and motels. These places are less confining and only have select services on-site which give visitors incentive to get out and explore the area. These places are great if you are interested in meeting local people, you want to indulge in the local culture and you want to have the freedom of actually experiencing the place rather than being confined to a resort. These places are also more affordable.
For more adventurous and budget-conscious travellers, we have hostels. Hostels usually offer the bare necessities when it comes to services and amenities but are great places to stay if you want to save money to do other things. Staying in a hostel also provides the opportunity to meet the locals and other travellers.
And speaking of things to do, Playa del Carmen is full of exciting things to see and do. Take a cruise over to Cozumel and spend an afternoon snorkelling the world-famous coral reefs, visit the Mayan ruins at Tulum or attend a live music event at one of the venues along the main street.
