You don’t realise how far vintage inspired clothing really goes. While fashion is always changing and progressing as the years go by there are many people that still admire the unique properties of a bygone era. The shapes and colours and materials used to create vintage clothing, then and now, are special components that help unite the style into something uniquely retro. How clothing sits on the body, how it flows, how the materials feel and fall are all physical elements that have an impact on us. Visually, colours influence us and details excite us. We put it all together and are inspired as the wearer. When we see old photographs and watch movies that are based in different eras we see things filled with beauty and intrigue and it is difficult not to be pulled towards them.
Vintage can be considered anything from the 1920s onwards, where clothing was created with a certain luxury that we still value to this day. Previously worn clothing from over twenty years ago still sells quite widely too, when it can be found, but there are ways to have what they had then without stepping directly into the past.
Back then, garments were authentically made, one at a time, with great detail applied. It can be hard to imagine that these ideals have been carried over. However, they have been and now we can have these attributes in clothing today. We see them and understand what makes them so desirable so we implement them but with even more ease thanks to the modern day, as fashion takes inspiration and uses it to bring out more beautiful garments that are more readily available. Whilst fun can always be had perusing flea markets, second hand stores and car boots sales, it is wonderful to now be able to buy brand new articles of clothing from retails stores and online.
Thanks to what was done then we have what is done now. Entire brands have been developed to include vintage styles applied to modern aspects of clothing design. What we knew then and what we know now has been combined to make fashion come to life in new ways. Using the old to inform the new has never worked more ideally. Whether it is for men or women, trousers or dresses or accessories, one thing or many things, they can all be found thanks to the inspiration taken and the new thinking applied. Fashion has grown with us and paid attention to what is valued from the past to create new vintage inspired clothing.
