Home improvements are almost always less expensive when you are able to do the work yourself. In fact, many home improvements are actually quite easy for a home owner to perform. However, sometimes the most difficult part of the job is finding a way to get the bulky building supplies from the store to your home.
Transporting building supplies is easy for the individual who owns a truck. But, for the individual who only owns a car, the issue of transporting supplies is significantly more difficult. Fortunately, many home improvement stores provide a variety of trucks that can be rented. The cost of renting a truck is generally low, and can be a lot more economical than hiring someone to transport the materials for you, or hiring someone to actually do the home improvement work.
As a general rule, the smallest truck that is able to do the job is the most economical choice. However, if you also have an additional task that requires a truck, you might be able to save money by renting a larger truck, and getting both tasks done at the same time. For example, if you are renting a truck to transport some lumber or drywall home from the store, you might also choose to move a few other items at the same time.
In order to keep truck rental rates low, it is advisable to plan your tasks so that they can be completed in the least amount of time possible. In most cases, you will pay a certain rate for a set period of time, and then there will be an additional fee for any time over that initial amount. For example, if you are interested in Home Depot truck rental services, they have special rates that cover the initial allotment of rental time, and then there is an additional fee for each fifteen minutes that you use the truck after that initial time period.
In many cases, the initial time allotment is enough to transport your purchased building supplies from the store to your home, and then return the truck to the store. However, if you do have a few other tasks that require a truck, it can be quite economical to keep the truck for the extra fifteen minutes or so. That way, you will avoid the need to pay the entire initial rental amount on a different day just to accomplish the small extra task.
